“And the Golden Globe for the best podcast adapted show goes to…” could be a phrase we will all be hearing in the near future. In fact, I believe I may have heard an early rendition of it on the most recent awards broadcast.
I marvel at the juxtaposition of billionaire Steve Jobs and his mammoth, international corporation Apple having invented the iPod which ultimately gave power to the lowly individual to change the world.
With a single device, one can record an “iPodcast” and their lone voice could be heard around the globe at any time. It is this rugged individualistic counter-culture ability that gave Apple its appeal to its consumers. However, I find it ironic that the Apple Corporation, being a huge international conglomerate, has empowered the individual to change the world.
How did it come to this for the Hart family? I am so shaken and sickened over this story. At points, I feel anger too.
I am angered at the thought of the foster care system being co-opted and corrupted for abuse, neglect, and ultimately a shocking end to young, innocent lives.
Broken Harts is a new podcast offering that is taking a fine-toothed, investigative comb to the death of 5 family members when their van sped rapidly off of a cliff and plunged into waters in Mendocino, California.
I feel like I have said this about years past, however, it rings true once again, 2018 was another brilliant year for The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast.
Joe’s channel on YouTube has now exceeded 4 million subscribers. He smoked cannabis on-air with Elon Musk, revived Sober October, attempted to crack the code of life with countless brilliant guests, and created all sorts of other highly entertaining greatness on his show.
While Joe is a comedian at heart, it is when he attempts to deconstruct life or attacks current social issues with an open mind and open forum that have always most attracted me to his show.
There have been many moments on the JRE podcast that have sparked some considerable changes in my own life. My dietary strategies, my pursuit of fulfillment in life, and the way I tend to personal relationships, have all been shaped by Joe and his guests.
Now, let us take a look back at 2018 which was a banner year for Joe and his diverse and intriguing array of guests.
I can not think of any other artist who has made the kind of pervasive and persistent impression on Pop Culture as comic book genius Stan Lee has.
The characters he created are enmeshed in the fabrics of our lives through varying media and an endless stream of branded product. From blockbuster commercial movie success to the Spider-Man pajamas my son adorns at bedtime, his mark has been left indelibly on our society and we are the better for it.
With this kind of generational, lightning in a bottle success comes a massive empire of riches and assets. Stan Lee had amassed the kind of wealth that most common working folk cannot even begin to wrap their heads around.
Having that kind of lucrative empire attached to the iconic nature of Stan’s illustrious career tends to bring people out of the woodwork day and night angling to secure some sort of benefit from Stan’s vast comic kingdom.
Podcasts have exploded over recent years. There are endless shows available now that can satisfy anyone’s interest from the broadest of ranging topics to the most narrow of niches.
Thanks to podcasts we as a society are:
Being captivated by investigative tales and true crime sagas
Learning of history in a compelling and unsanitized format
Enjoying gut-wrenching laughs from uncensored comedy
Simply finding more joy in life
