TED 2020 Talk Idea
Alcohol and Anxiety
This is my submission video for a TED 2020 talk idea. I am submitting under the category of having a thoughtful approach to a universally shared frustration. The frustration I have personally identified with and feel is shared amongst many of my peers, especially in generation X, is a subtle undercurrent of anxiety and disconnection from a purpose in life. My approach to combatting this is taking a break from drinking alcohol.
For myself and I’m guessing many others in the world, casually drinking alcohol has not only failed to deliver on the societally ingrained promise of delivering fun and relaxation but it has created subtle anxieties and numbed my emotions. Taking a break from drinking has allowed me to live a more authentic and purposeful life.
Wellness, mental health, and self-empowerment have all be themes I have spent a great deal of time writing and producing video content on at my site. I am especially passionate on this specific topic of drinking alcohol because I have lived for years with the feelings of subtle angst and disconnection from purpose but I have also experienced the wider range of emotions and pure joy that taking a break from drinking has provided me.
